FROM EUROPE INTO EUROPE - FRAGMENT: "SOON THERE’LL BE SNOW, HAPPY IS HE WHO HAS A HOME."
Portrait
Benedek Fliegauf borrowed a line from Friedrich Nietzsche’s poem “Vereinsamt” for the title of his contribution to the episode film EURÓPÁBÓL EURÓPÁBA / FROM EUROPE INTO EUROPE. On the occasion of Hungary’s accession to the European Union, ten Hungarian directors spanning three generations (among them István Szabó, Miklós Jancsó, Ildikó Enyedi and Ferenc Török) delivered their take on this historic development. The concept behind Fliegauf’s three-minute episode is strikingly minimalist: He focuses on a handful of people, some known to him, others strangers, each of them unique – all of them perhaps lonely? They walk through deserted cityscapes by the river. All of them are Hungarians, all of them are now in Europe.
