Levan Koguashvili’s documentary is dedicated to a group of Georgian woman: ones who came to the USA in order to better support the families they left behind. Private interviews focusing on individual histories alternate with the protagonists’ loud discussions about relatives back home or their first impressions of America. The immigrants carve out niches in which something of their roots can survive, while the prospect of going home – a realistic goal for some, a remote dream for others – constantly hovers . Be it in the women’s conversations or their video films, Georgia is never far away. All the same, a picture of America builds up, not least in the shots of the women going about their work in a not always splendid new world.
